NETWORK - NEWSNETWORK ENCOURAGES MORE FOOD DRIVESJust two months into the year and NETWORK already has given over 2,900 individuals more than 70,000 pounds of food. Many of these individuals in need of food are coming to a food pantry for the very first time, and NETWORK has approached the point where its food supply is being seriously impacted by this high demand. NETWORK purchases food, but a major way it augments feeding hungry children, adults and seniors is through the generosity of food drives. A few drives, small and large, have been hosted recently to help replenish the food supply, but more are needed right now. The reason---a new wave of suffering adults and children are coming to NETWORK in unprecedented numbers because of the recent economic crisis. Once stable, thriving families who never thought they would need emergency help are seeking NETWORK because of massive job losses due to industry cutbacks. These families endure ongoing anxiety towards meeting their household bills while they attempt to survive a long period of overwhelming financial distress. 90% of those who come to NETWORK will receive food, and during 2008 that total reached over 26,000 individuals. Regular food donations to the NETWORK pantry guarantee the organization will have the necessary food to distribute every single day to these struggling families. “Hunger is all around us,” stated Dee Cummings, the NETWORK Food Campaign Coordinator. “We are intensifying our year long food campaign by reaching out to everyone right now within the Richardson community to have the food needed to feed more people.” Cummings encourages every business, church, and association to get involved with feeding our neighbors by hosting a NETWORK food drive. |
