What is Toyland Express
The holiday season is a time of joy and excitement; however, this time of year is also a time of great struggle and distress for low-income families within our community. When a parent must choose between feeding their family and providing Christmas toys – the tree will often remain bare.
To meet this seasonal need within our community, Network of Community Ministries hosts Toyland Express each year. This is a holiday assistance program with the goal of helping low-income families to provide toys for their children during the Holiday season.
This year’s program will run from November 13th to December 20th.
How Does it Work?
Eligible parents or guardians schedule an appointment and go through a quick eligibility screening process. Once approved, each family is allotted a certain number of “Santa Bucks” depending on their family size.
Parents/Guardians use their “Santa Bucks” to shop for toys in our Toyland Express toy warehouse. The warehouse is filled with new toys for various ages and preferences. Volunteer “elves” help guide parents during their visit. Depending on the needs and desires of their child, families may use their “Santa Bucks” for several smaller toys, one really large toy, or any combination of the two.
Once toys have been selected, each toy will be wrapped (per the parent’s request) and sent home to be put under the tree!
How do I Receive Help During the Holiday Season?
If you and your family need assistance for the Holidays, please call our office at (972) 234-8880 starting November 1st to make an appointment. You will be required to bring with you:
- 1. Proof of income (most recent paycheck stubs, tax return, bank statement etc.)
- 2. Proof of residence within our service area (lease, bill with your name and address, etc.)
- 3. Photo ID’s for yourself and alternative IDs for all other household members (License, State ID, Tax return listing depends, lease listing all residents, birth certificate, social security card)
Along with Toyland Express, you may be eligible to receive assistance through out other various programs (such as food, clothing, and utilities assistance). Please ask the receptionist about these services when you schedule your appointment.
How do I Make a Donation
Donations for Toyland Express are being accepted now! Donations should be new toys for children 12 years of age or younger. If you would like a list of popular toys, please send your request to email@example.com. Since the toy market is so broad, we encourage all interested donors to look at the toy section at a toy store near you (Walmart, Target, Toys-R-Us, etc.)
Donations can be dropped off at Network any time during out normal business hours (Monday – Thursday 9:00Am-6:00PM; Friday 9:00AM-Noon)
Please note that any donations made after December 20th will be used for next year’s program.
Can I Host an Angel Tree?
If your company, community group, organization, or church is interested in hosting an Angel Tree, please stop by Network any time to pick up angels. Angels are not tied to a specific child or family, but instead help us to collect toys for our toy warehouse. Each Angel is either pink or blue, and lists an age range for your toy donation(s).
